Hi guys,
I own a 2004 E60 525i.
It has automatic transmission.
This morning, The engine run very roughly during the cold start.
I decided to turn it off, and wait for 30 seconds and start it again.
It was running fine.
However, whenever I stopped I can really feel the transmission shift from 2nd gear to 1st gear.
It is very rough. I remember a topic on how to reset transmission before in this forum, but I couldn't find it anymore.
Anyone knows how to do it?
Thank You
Yoko

Turn off car. Turn key to position two (electronics on, but no ignition). Push accelerator to the floor and hold for 25-30 secs. Release. Move key back to initial insert position. Then restart car.

Hi,
thank your for your information.
My last question is:
do I need to reset it in the morning when the engine is still cold?
Thank you.
Yoko.

Hi guys,
I did it just now, but there is no sound coming from the transmission.
The drive is still rough.
My key is still the old model one, would that be the reason why?

the older model key would not be an issue...if you read thru the thread that member btljuice: members with the older key were able to reset their transmission as well. Some did report no sound made, but did report a difference in shifting. Perhaps this is not the fix you need...

I have the old key and I was able to reset transmission. Usually, when your driving in D the 1st gear is never selected (correct me if I'm wrong) even after you reset the transmission. Maybe is not a transmission problem but something else.
