Default replacing oil pan plug gasket

Is it possible to change my oil without changing the oil pan plug gasket and filter gasket?

Are you asking if you can do it, or if it is advisable to do it?

Nearly all brand name quality oil filters will come with a crush ring for the drain plug, and gasket or gaskets for the filter housing and filter housing drain plug, depending upon which engine you have.

It is recommended that you change the gaskets when you change the oil and filter.

If you just changed your oil and forgot to swap the old for new, it is not the end of the world, but I would keep an eye out for any leaks for at least the first several hundred miles. If you get past that with no oil loss then you are probably OK until the next oil change.

However, if instead of forgetting to remove and replace a gasket, you added a second gasket on top of the first then use great caution as it will be very easy for oil to leak out.

If you do not install the crush seal it will leak at the drain. I don't know if it would still leak if you reused the old seal though. As for the filter/cap o ring. I removed the filter cap when I changed the two housing seals due to a leak. It wasn't due for an oil change, so I just simply reinstalled the cap with the same o ring and filter. I can't imagine why one would want to change their oil and not change the filter when its due for this though...

In a pinch, I've reused the copper crush ring on my E30s and E60, never experienced leaks. I wouldn't reuse it more than once, and I'd only reuse it if you are absolutely in a bind.
