Hi it's my first post on this forum. I've got some problem with my BMW emblem on steering wheel. It' s partly hollowed. And I'm scared to break it off baceause of the airbag. Does anyone had similar problem and could tell me how to fix it?

This emblem can not be fixed! It sucks. Part of the airbag system. I already screwed mine up big time! It has 4 prongs that are wrapped around the rubber thing where the airbag deploys.

I had gotten black roundels and was replacing the steering wheel one when I noticed (after mangling) that the emplem is wrapped on and like tin. Once dented, its ruined. Must get entire airbag unit $800 inorder to fix.

Sucks, but I hope this helps.

Sorry to say, there is no way to replace only the emblem. You really don't want to put anything over it because in case of deployment, guess what's going to hit your face? These emblems are made from soft metal so that if they hit your face, during airbag activation, the damage to your face would be minimal.

I still don't understand the logic of making it part of the airbag system, though. I wonder why they couldn't make it a changeable part using the same soft aluminum foil type metal.

Mine is a little worn off. The dealer has ordered the airbag and is going to replace it under warranty.
