My Ride: 2006 530xi. Deep green with beige interior. 6 speed manual. Premium package.

I got a sweet deal on a 2008 535xi. Sport, Premium, Cold Weather, Confort access, and Sat with 53000 that is CPO with maintainence included until 100K for $30,000. Could not figure out why it was so cheap. After purchase figured it out. Previous owner was a smoker. Knew this going in because of the smell, but a dryer sheet under the seats fixed that problem.

But as I get to know my car I have seen all of the little faults. The A pillars are "worn" in a few spots. Probably from over zealous cleaning. Can't see it from the drivers seat, but when I let my wife drive and sit in the passenger seat you can really see it. Also there were a few burn marks on the cupholders. And the worst is a burn mark in the rear passenger headliner.

So my plan is to replace the headliner and a pillars. Can get used ones pretty cheap. I have not found good pics of the removal of the headliner on an e60 or the a pillars.

Can anyone confirm this:

1- the a pillars come off with removal of the air bag tab and then they are just clipped in. Airbag underneath has nothing to do with it.

2- removal of the headliner is similar to the removal for a 7 series. Found a good write up on another forum.

Overall it seems like not a big job for a few hundred dollars.

mind posting a link or the actual document you found elsewhere for the headliner - good info to add to this great site! OH, and if you can, document your removal and replacement for others to refer to when they want to do this. I'd love to upgrade to the anthracite one day.

I know there is an Alcantera headliner in the M5 which is basically a fake suede. I have an anthracite headliner in my 2007 550i which was a priority one option at the time. Its just a near black headliner. I also have the anthracite wood trim just to add to the confusion.
