I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on some of these repairs from the repair history on the 535i I am looking at buying...

Defect Code Description
1351651500 High Pressure Pump HDP Permanent Malfunction
1353181500 Fuel Temperature Sensor / Pressure Sensor (fuel-pressure sensor) permanent malfunction
1353229600 Fuel Injector Fault code stored in diagnosis fault code memory (warning lamp on)

Other than these, there has only been some other minor fixes..The only thing that scares me is that looking at the overall repair history of the vehicle, it looks like it has been in the shop 9 times from January 2009 to January 2010...

Thoughts? Looking at this, I am getting nervous about trading in my 528i for this. I love the 535, but I don't want to get stuck with a lemon..The factory warranty is good until December of this year and then CPO takes over..

After some internet searching, I believe the first item is a replacement of the HPFP. I contacted BMW NA and they indicated that the recent recall does effect this vehicle but could not tell me exactly what would need to be done (pump, injectors, tune) to satisfy the recall. If the pump needs to be replaced, what is the latest/greatest part number I should be looking for my dealer to install?

Aside from the repairs you noted in the original post can you share what other work was done during the 9 visits? For example, I'd say if additional maintenance (oil, brake flush, etc) was done that's a positive. Or were any other repairs (tires or bodywork) reported that might be out of the ordinary. That said, this might be a car the dealership is very familiar with.

And aside from original warranty and CPO if you're nervous about this specific car I'd tell the dealer that and maybe even negotiate that if any previously done repairs repeat themselves they should waive the CPO co-pay ... and even offer you a HUGE discount ("free"?) on the BMW extended maintenance warranty.

Some of the other work that was performed included:
1166023200- Vacuum lines deformed/distorted/bent
6763031200- Pump, windshield cleaning system permanent failure
3241011500 Vane/tandem pump/electric pump permanent malfunction
6552008600- On-board monitor/control display/central information display (CID), front does not light up
1614069900- EKP control unit Fault code stored in diagnosis fault code memory (no warning lamp)

all the rest is oil changes, microfilter replacement, and brake fluid change..

Really? That would be disappointing, but I see your point..on the other hand I could say that all of the problems have been addressed...It is a CPO, not sure how that will help me...anyone else have any thoughts?

Problem car and regardless of CPO i would pass on it. Btw how long is CPO going to last anyway ? Good job that you did your home work and looked into the service history (thumbs up)

CPO takes it through until Dec 2013..original warranty is up 12/2011...

I have asked the service folks to provide me with the entire service history (which should include why the vehicle was brought in for service and what was performed).

Still on the fence about it. It appears that many of the issues are related to the fuel pump issue...which I guess is an inherent risk regardless of what 535 I purchase...

I dunno, of all the dealerships I have worked with in my life, this dealership has been consistenly honest and helpful with anything I wanted...Man, this makes my decision difficult..

I would agree that you did very good to get all the service records. Don't now do bad by ignoring the information that you received. It's that exact problematic history that you were checking for when you requested the records. Obviously it would have been great if the records would have shown a "clean" history...but just be glad that you found out BEFORE you bought it...that's the idea.

IMHO...there are too many good cars out there to be buying one with a laundry list such as that...regardless of how good/nice the dealership is. I would pass on that particular car.
