I know this is a long shot but I figured I would ask. Is it possible to find out if a recall was fixed on a car other than going to the dealer? Or get a service history on the car if it was services at a dealer? I don't think carfax give that kind of detail.

As far as I know the dealer will not release a detailed print out of everything that was done on the vehicle, or at least my SA wouldn't lol. They will let you know however when a specific service like brakes, oil change, etc. was done. (Maybe my SA was just an ass)

Any SA can get the history (or any current or former BMW employee with the log in info). They are dicks about it and it totally depends on who you know. I was told by the dealership that was selling my 550 that I couldn't look at it; then I told them to piss off and said I wouldn't purchase the car without it. They promptly apologized and insta-shipped the full report.

My indy shop also has the ability to pull these up. They have a former employee with log in info and will get it for a preferred customer if you ask nicely.

My service advisor at BMW of Dallas said that the service history on a BMW is "confidential", and could not be released to me. But, when I went to activate the BMW assist in the sales department, the sales advisor told me that nothing ever had to be repaired on the car; he said that the only thing on the service history was routine maintenance.

Funny, now the car needs about a million things fixed. Go figure! At least it's still in warranty.
