hi guys does anyone know how to remove the sill strips on the front (not the BMW door sills). item number 1 in the picture below
i don't want to snap anything while talking it out.

Search...there should be a DIY on this. I remember the member modded with lighted sill. it was a lot of work though but turned out very nice.

I think it's all tabs underneath with possible 1 or 2 screw so look for the screws then just pry it off.

just to clarify its not the door sill. it is the sill strip which is on the bottom of the frame of the door (its beside the door sill)
second photo isnt from e60 but you get the idea

Personally I have not removed this trim piece from an E60 but have done it on my other previous cars when I ran wires for the stereo system, it's best if you use those flat head trim piece remover or may be a flat head screw driver to help pry the first one from one edge. Once it's lifted, just yank it slowly so you don't break those tabs. Worst case, those tabs are pretty cheap at the dealer.

i was just wondering if its not easy to just slide the trim to one side so it comes out out the clips and the clips stay inside still, possible (see pics below)?
worried that i might snap the old trim while taking it out.
