Removal of USB/iPod Bezel

I have a 2008 550i. I am looking to run an extension cable for my iPod from the console up to the dash in front of the shifter.
Is it possible to remove the USB/iPod bezel without removing the entire console/armrest? If I can do that, I am thinking I can snake an extension cable through that hole, past the iDrive controller and shifter and up to the front.
