Is regular unleaded better than super unleaded?

It's usually via a 'knock sensor'. There's one per cylinder and the ECU actually 'listens' to the explosion - it can tell from this how to adjust the timing... The theory being to allow the explosion as close as possible to pre-ignition (pinking) without causing harm - this maximises power and efficiency...
