Thumbs up

I ordered my 545 without active steering because I did not want the sport package which was the only way to get it. I prefer a luxury sport ride rather than a true sports car ride. Plus the roads around Chicago are not the smoothest ever. I keep reading about how wonderful the active steering is. How about the stock steering? Does it still handle well? Or will I be disappointed?

I have the standard steering, and it is amazing. It is quick to respond, accurate, tight. When we had so many problems with our 530, we went to look at the E320. The E320 was so sloppy and not connected to the road. It made me love the way the 530 steers. You'll be happy with the regular steering.
And yes, I'm sure the active steering is fabulous.

AS is great, but without it you get the renowned BMW steering along with increased road feel.

Ever since I own my 530i w/ Active Steering, I'm now never have any fun driving other cars w/o active steering. But I'm sure E60 w/o AS should still feeling good.

Oh man AS is by far one of my favorite things in the 545i. I don't know which way i would lean with AS (Sporty or Luxury feel)...it gives you best of both worlds where its response is quick and feels sporty. on the other hand, AS also carries a lot of luxury traits where you hardly have to turn the wheel. You just sit back and turn the wheel only half way and the car does a 90 degree turn...WAY COOL!!!

Is AS only exclusive to BMW or which other cars like Lexus, Jag, etc. start implementing that technology into their cars. I hope BMW has some type of a patent, TM, or something on AS. Way to go BMW!!

I ordered my car without AS but with Servotronic and the steering is great. The car responds very well to steeringactions as if the car is much smaller then it really is. I love my normal steering and do not regret that I don't have AS.

My next 545i SMG must have AS. It should be bug-free at the time.
