Regular seats vs. Sport seats
Hi,
I heard some rummors of people unhappy with the regular seats of the 2008 5 series touring. On the other hand, I have seen some people in the forum complaining that the sport seats were to hard.
I would like to have your thoughts on that.
* Are regular seats that bad?
* How do they compare with the sport seats
Cheers,
JP

I think you'll find that the best thing you can do is go sit in each one and see for yourself. You're likely to get opinions split down the middle here since, as you say, you've seen people unhappy/happy with both.
It shouldn't be too hard to find examples of each seat at a dealership, right?

Thanks Rudy.
I have been to the dealership and I have tried both. I must say I prefered the sports seats on the spot, but I believe the real test comes ofter a long day driving, which I wasn't able to do.
On the other hand I strikes me as very awkard that the standard seats of a 5 series are not top quality. What do you think are the main faults of the standard seats?
Cheers,
JP

I've only owned cars with the sport seats and the comfort (multi-contour) seats so I can't really comment on the standard seats. Come to think of it, I may have used the standard seats in a service loaner once or twice but obviously they didn't leave much of an impression on me one way or the other (pun intended...)

If your budget permits, I would upgrade the seats on a new car that you are ordering to comfort seats.

If you are on the fence, consider that the comfort seats scored way better for whiplash protection vs. the standard or sport seats (pre-lci). That alone is worth the upgrade. what is really disappointing however is that BMW would actually sell the standard seats in a car this expensive when they are not safe. The headrests are garbage on the standard seats and are too far from the head to protect your neck. See this link for more detail.

I Have sports seast and i am really glad that they are, sat in a stadard seating, and for long drives the sport ones are much more comfortable.
However the ones in the M5 i would think are the best,
Sport is m reccommendation.
