My Ride: 545 modded the F out

What makes it even more horrible is that if you are late 10 days you have to pay 10% of the existing fee. Once you pass 30 days of expiration you gotta pay 60% of that original fee.!!.. CRAZY!! I almost registered my car in DC this year because of this, but I'm moving back to CA next month and I didnt want to deal with the whole property Tax thing they got goin on here. Only reason why I know this is cuz I had to pay the 10% cuz I got my renewal notice late from my brother in CA. ![](https://5series.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/fcuk.gif)
. 500 bucks down the drain that could have gone towards mods....or GAS!
Table on how Vehicle Registration Annual Renewal Penalties are Calculated
If payment is late:The penalty will be the sum of:
1-10 days*10% of the Vehicle License Fee due for that year
10% of the Weight Fee due for that year, if any
11-30 days*20% of the Vehicle License Fee due for that year
20% of the Weight Fee due for that year, if any
31 days-1 year*60% of the Vehicle License Fee due for that year
60% of the Weight Fee due for that year, if any

UK is just as bad - see http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...le/DG_10012524 so if you have the biggest polluter you have to pay UK £435 a year and they get you to pay a first year payment of UK £950 on a new one. So the only way to pay nothing is to get something very small or hybrid.
And they know if you haven't paid. We have registration recognition cameras that instantly alert the cops if you risk driving. You get penalty points on your driving license and fined. If you go past 12 penalty points you get driving license suspended. Penalty points can accumulate for other driving misdemeanours like not having an annual car safety certificate. I suspect there are similar punishments in the US. Possibly varying from state to state.
Oh and if you don't have a driving license they award the penalty points to any future license you apply for.

Wow, and I thought Michigan was bad. In Michigan, registration is based on the original MSRP regardless of age. So you could be rolling around in an old 80s Benz and pay $300/yr while the guy in a brand new Cobalt pays $90/yr.

Our property taxes are about 1-1.3% of county's assessed value which is gang-rape. So with that logic you would be living in a 180k-200k house in Cali right now driving an M5 which is probably not the case.
And trying to insure an M5 in the LA county will be just as obscene.

Oh never mind, I read that incorrectly... but I blame it on the weird way you wrote that.
