well, if the US DOT didn't approve it, i hope they don't pass some regulation to stop and fine the ones with them.
don juan - good to know you got your reflectors. although all i did what wrapped the tip of a flat head screw driver with electrical tape and used it pry off the black ugly inserts and they came off pretty easy. i think i got ripped off though, my credit card was charged $75, i know it's like $36 Canadian each + shipping. i don't know, i guess i shouldn't care - huh? regards

$75 dollars...ouch that is expensive. Mine after the currency conversion in my AMex card came out to $49.24. The shipping took 3 days from Canada. Not bad. I love the reflectors.

[/quote]There was a discussion on whether or not the reflectors did not meet US regulations a few months ago. Some of us did some research and concluded that according the the US regulations the E60 reflectors should have been OK.
A couple of weeks ago some people started receiving the Euro version of the reflectors that they had ordered through Canadian dealers. I decided just to satisfy my curiousity I would ask them to see if the reflectors have the DOT (Department of Transportation) and SAE markings on them (like the US version E46 coupes). A couple of them checked and responded that in fact the reflectors DID have the same DOT and SAE markings. This seems to indicate that BMW did not omit the reflectors on US E60's because of US regulations. Maybe there was not enough initial supply of the reflectors, or maybe they wanted to save some money. I can't believe that it would be the latter. A pair of reflectors are sold for about 12 Euros to the public by German dealers. If they sell it for that amount it probably costs less than half of that for BMW, so they would not be saving much money.

so...i really angry this time..the dealer anywhere told me that it didnt comply US DOT. i've asked 3 dealer and they all confirmed the same judgement.
i guess..2005 version will have this red reflector..
i'm so dissappointed with this result.
