Don't know. After 20-odd years of driving, I can't think of a single case where a runflat would have really saved my day. And I've had my fair share of tyre punctures.
In my 20 years of driving I cannot think of an instance where a seatbelt or an airbag saved my day, but I sure as hell wouldn't buy a car without them.

With the tyre set up I have, according to my dealer there is no RFT available. Because the car was originally delivered with RFTs, I do not have a spare.
netjazz wrote about an electric tyre pump, so that is another option for someone in my position.
Is there not also some kind of tyre foam that can be used to keep you mobile and get you to the next garage etc.? Anyone tried this stuff?
Cheers

In the last 6 months we have bought two small fiats in my family (grande punto). The lower spec model came with a spare tyre, the higher spec has no spare, and no run flats. In the boot (trunk) you get an electric pump with a built in canister of sealing gunk.

1. With airbags and seatbelts, you do not have a choice anymore. Nor are they wear and tear items regularly replaced during the life of a car. And I'm struggling very hard to think of any significant day-to-day disadvantages for either a seat belt or an airbag.
2. There are plenty of cases of people that have had their lives saved by 'belts and 'bags. Including myself (seat belt) - though probably I just saved myself a big knock on the head. I am not sure - as exposed in several postings in this thread - that there are circumstances where a run flat really can save your life, unless the car has been designed from the ground up to fit RFT's handling characteristics (e.g. E90). Which the E60 has not.

We seem to all agree that runflats are more of a convenience than a lifesaver (unless otherwise you have to change tyres on a motorway that is...)

Is it worth debating further?

if its just lifesaving qualities thats interesting, you can buy bands that go inside the wheel that fill the 'valley' inside the rim. This is supposed to better control the movement of the tyre and stop it collapsing into the wheel. This gives a little better control to allow you to stop. These are popular fitments on trailer caravans
It might not be necessary to pay 70% more for a high tech tyre
