I wonder if I am the first owner in New Jersy to receive the official BMW Cupholder Upgrade; presumably version 2.0 .
Anyway, I am pleased to report thst the upgraded version does what it is intended to do; that is, hold cups. Last week my Wife had a partially full Pepsi Can launched at her; not quite with the parbolic trajectory of mortar fire, but almost the same.
And today? No problem !! The upgrade has been perfoprmed and the Pepsi Can is held quite securely. Once again, BMW has responded to customer needs regarding critical issues.
Version 16.2 was also installed and I have no complaints about it. The NAV Perspective View is cute ( though not really needed ), I don't miss the screen telling me that the HVAC is in automatic mode, and finally, the radio stays off when I want it to do so. Also, I don't find the new NAV icons to be intrusive.
There's a new little telephone icon whose function I haven't yet determined. Anyone know?
Also, I am now getting about 20 stations on AM Autostore instead of the previous 6. Wow!
All comments welcome.
Thanks,
Art

Thanks for the update Art.? Any chance of some detail pics of the cupholders?? Is there any noticeable difference to them just looking at them?

I will tray to take a picture Rudy. But visually there doesn't seem to be any apparent difference. I suspect that the mechanism is the same but that a dimension or two has been modified to better accept standard can diameters etc.

Wow.... a cupholder in a BMW that actually works.
I wonder how many German engineers it took to figure that one out?

I didn't realize that there was a fix or replacement for the previous cupholders.. I just left a 2004 545i for a 2005 545i (see other thread).. and YES, the cuplholders ARE better.. WOW!
they hold my large Mickey D or NK Diet cokes with much more precision than the other ones.. before, it would kind of wobble around, now it goes down farther and is more stable.
As for the 16.2, I think the biggest and only concern for everyone should be the fact that the radio stays off now when you left it that way on your last drive. all the other stuff is trivial, imo.

The engine, suspension etc is what counts. All the rest is a bunch of sauerkraut.

[/quote]Just like in the Porsches I've owned...they only recently included them, and the first few versions were horrible...not that I'd let anybody bring a drink into my Porsches...

The guy that started this thread has a 2005 E60.
Did they replace the cupholders on THAT car?
I hope so, because I have an 2005.... and the cupholders won't hold anything well. Everything tips over, so I have to drive with one hand holding the drink.
