I guess I should check my mail -- mine is a 3/2004 build also. It's funny but once, and only once, did I see an SOS malfunction warning. It came up in the HUD, etc. but before I could even process what it was saying to me, it went away...

I noticed in your signature that you had MP3 retrofitted on your March 2004 build. I've had bluetooth retrofitted but not MP3. I was under the impression that my car was too old for the retrofit. I don't have the Logic7 Sound or navigation. Is that the difference that allowed your car to be retrofitted?
I am planning to install an ipod interface in conjunction with the recall. That way they can turn it on at no charge when they re-install my software. I am wondering if they could do the retrofit on MP3 at the same time? Of course I guess my big concern should be what version of software they will be updating to. I am at version 20 something now and have had no problems with the car. I understand that there are some problems with the eyebrow lights on the newest version. Oh well... guess I'll just have to plow ahead unless they fix is right around the corner.

Take a look at one of the original MP3 retrofit threads if you haven't already:

I also got the recall notice for the TCU for my 2006 525i. Everything in the car is working perfect right now (that I know of). The Bluetooth works great and the rest of the car is perfect. Do you all think by getting the TCU fixed it might do more damage then good? Should I just leave well enough alone? I do not subscribe to BMW Assist.

Hi Formula 1
There's an old saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I would not touch anything. When you bring your ride in for it's next service, they will know if you need the TCU upgrade.

Thanks Mr 5er. I think I will leave it alone till my next visit.

I'm pretty sure you need to have Navigation (CCC) to get the MP3 retrofit...
Take a look at one of the original MP3 retrofit threads if you haven't already:

Regarding the BMW iPod interface for MOST Bus Vehicles, I found the following compatibility chart:
5 series E60/E61
w/o nav 03/05 on
with nav 09/05 on
For MP3, see the compatibility chart attached.
Hopefully somebody will correct me and tell me that it is possible to have either one on production date 03/04 with M-ASK unit

My April 2004 build 525i has never had the Service notification feature work. Not once. And the dealer can't explain it. Seems like the TCU could be the culprit.
I got the recall notice yesterday and if I understand it correctly, my BMW assist emergency notification in the event of a crash is probably not functioning. Since I've been paying for BMW Assist primarily to have this feature, I think I should get the next two years free.
