Ok guys so I have a 2004 5 series and I recently had the seat heater problem that burnt a hole through the seat. The recall was issued in 2004 however the previous owner never had this fixed. BMW says the best they will do is go 50/50 on the fix.

I think BMW does have a leg to stand on since my vehicle is out of warranty and the recalled part was never fixed.

On the other hand the moth***** almost caught me on fire and lit a fire under my a$$!

What do you guys think?

dont know if your seat catching on fire and burning you to death is considered a safety issue, but check these out:

Bullshit, it should be 100% covered. There is a BMW bulletin about it and in my opinion a recall is a recall is a recall. YOU ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE.

anyhow. it is a safety issue, they should pay for it. it is a known recall and defect. if it is recognized as such, bmw should fix it. this isnt normal wear and tear or something that develops because of abuse.

say you dont have the money to fix it, i dont care if you do or dont, its hypothetical, and even if you do, you shouldnt pay... and you just go on with your day, then the car catches fire because your seat, we shall call it lucifer seat, decides to spontainiously seatly combust causing an agonizing buring death to your passengers as you rip down the interstate in a fireball of german fury. well i guess just make sure you leave a note at home anytime you drive blaming bmw for the potential of a horrible demise. who the fuck installed your seat warmers anyway? i think bmw orders the seat warmers from a terrorist training camp in pakistan.

what the fuck.

Hey guys:

We really don't need to have more than one thread to discuss the same issue, don't we?

I know this reply is a little late in comparison to the original date of this post.
I called BMW today because it felt like someone had a blow torch on my a$$ and they told me that there is no such recall. I have an 04 530.

Either they lied, or they are terribly misinformed.
