Recall Campaign Number: 22V-119: PCV Valve Heater
I received an official recall notice regarding the PCV Valve Heater for my E60 today. I guess they didn't fully fix the fire risk issues.
It states:
Why are we contacting you?:
"We are informing you of a safely recall on your vehicle, although we are not able to perform the remedy at this time. We will notify you with a follow-up letter as soon as we are able to perform this safety recall."
What Could Happen:
"The vehicle's PCV valve heater, which is only activated in cold weather climates, may not have been produced to specifications by the supplier. Over time, this could lead to overheating in the engine compartment. In some cases, it could lead to a fire." "If you see smoke from the engine compartment, or smell smoke, or a plastic burning odor, carefully move away from traffic and pull over to a safe location as soon as possible. All occupants should carefully exit the vehicle and more to a safe location away from traffic. Do not continue to drive the vehicle. Dial 911 in the event of an emergency or contact BMW Roadside Assistance to have your vehicle brought to the nearest authorized BMW center. BMW will reimburse you for the towing service if the issue is confirmed to be related to this recall.
What will BMW do?
The remedy is currently being developed. When the remedy is available, it will be performed free of charge.
I'm sure those affected will receive the notice, but just wanted to give everyone a heads up the "remedy is unavailable" at this time. I replaced my PCV hose when I replaced the starter and intake manifold gaskets, the actual PCV valve though I hear also breaks easily.
Hope they come up with a fix soon.

I believe this only affects the N52 engine, but not sure.

I have an N52, and they long since took care of mine. They might have just gotten to you. I have a friend with the same car as mine, and they recalled hers but not mine. I did not understand that at all. But then years later, they finally recalled mine.
I think they just didn't want everyone overloading the dealers then. My friend had to wait many months because of all the other people who got recalled. When I got my letter, they took care of me right away though.

The NTHSA Recall notice says "The remedy is currently being developed".
Q4. Did BMW conduct a similar Safety Recall?
Yes, in 2017 and 2019.
Q5. If I had a similar Safety Recall performed previously, will I need to have this Safety Recall
performed?
Yes. Your vehicle will need to have the 2022 Safety Recall performed.
