I am going into BMW this week to have my Aux input installed. When setting up the appointment the Service Advisor informed me there has been Recall on my car for a CIP upgrade (he actually said all 545's). My car has V18.xx and I have been reading about some people with CIP 20.01 issues. I informed the SA of this. He then called me back and told me it would CIP Version 20.02 and this should improve the car.

Should I be worried about this version??

They want me to sign something if i want to waive the recall. I am torn as I like the way my car is driving now and I don't want this software change to affect this in any negative way.

Waive a recall? I've never heard of that. Please, keep is posted if you or anyone know of this CIP 20.02 update for a recall.

In what way will 20.02 improve your car? What is the recall for? Is updating to 20.02 a specified part of the recall? Or is updating required simply because the recall fix will require software reinstallation? And, should you be concerned, well, I would be. But, who knows? For what it is worth, reliable sources tell me that BMW does not always say what a software update tinkers with.

All good questions, in which I don't have any answers. I will be asking them a Sh*t load of questions tomorrow, but who knows where that will get me.

All I know is that he said they will be letters going out from BMW NA and I would have to get this done. Since I am going in there for something else they are going to do this recall.

Ya I'll be interested in the reason too... are they going to ZAP us with 20.02 to make sure our 545s are slower than the 550s?

Yeah, it's all Znod's fault. With all the testing posted on this forum from Znod and Grogan545, and people with G-meters, BMW said there going to put a STOP to it. The 550i displacement was suppose to be faster, but Znod and the G-meter gang are proving BMW wrong.

Than again, maybe the mp3 complaints and door creaking are the reasons for the recall.

CIP version 20.02:

"Drivers' frustrated with the unability to play mp3 may cause a distract and endangered to others. In addition, the creaking doors and windows may also contribute to endanger the public."

As long as they offer me MP3 then I'm all for it.

Are you sure it is a "recall" and not just a service bulletin (or TS?

A recall, as I understand it, is something required by federal regulators, e.g. NHTSA or DOT.

A TSB on the other hand is something that is voluntarily done by the manufacturer.

So, you said you would let us know today if it was a recall, also what it was about.

I only ask because I have an appointment on the 13th of this month. I need to plan if they intend to keep my vehicle even longer.

Well, let us know
