I checked mine this evening and the first time I used it, the defroster ran for about 10 minutes (I didn't see the exact time it shut off.)

The second time I turned it on, it stayed on for exactly 5 minutes...

Same here last night in the snow, at least 10 minutes

Thanks for all the input. I checked on the way to work this morniing and the first time I turned it on it ran for 10 minutes and the second time for 5 so I guess it is working correctly. I never realized that after they run shorter cycles after the first one. I appreciate all the responses and can cancel my service appointment.
