On my way home in our "blizzard" yesterday In Atlanta (0.4" snow before it changed to rain), I was using my rear window defroster (probably for the first time) and noticed it seemed to be clicking off fairly quickly. I timed it a couple of times and it would run for 4-5 minutes and then turn off. I thought it might have something to do with the fact that I was using the heated seats and steering wheel so I turned each of those off and re-timed it - again about 5 minutes. I know that it is timed to go off but I would think that it should run more than 5 minutes - more like 10 in my experience.

Anyone else have any input as to how long the rear window defroster should run? It's not a particularly big deal given where I live but if there's something wrong I'd like to get it taken care of.

Sounds quick to me also. I never timed mine but I'm fairly sure its longer than 5 min. Thats not enough time to defrost/ice.

That's what I thought. I just spoke to my SA and he says that is too quick as well. He thought it should run for at about 10 minutes but was not certain. I have an appointment to bring it in to have them check it.

hmm, I don't know but doubt it's adjustable; they'll probably replace the timer/ switch.

Thanks. Like Hellsonwheels said, I'm sure it's not adjustable so it must have a defective timer. I have an appointment to bring it in next Friday.

When you switch it on the first time, it stays on a bit longer.

Once it turns off you can switch it on again, but then the period is much shorter.

I think 15 mins the first time, 5 mins every time after that. Thats how it works on my Camaro.

I'll try it on the way home and see how long it stays on the first time. I don't think it stayed on 15 minutes the first time yesterday. It was fairly short - that's why I started timing it.
