I heard rumors of this, I just went outside to to grab my cell phone and the trunk lid was wide open, I never hit the transmitter.

What the hell is this car doing?

I too have had this happen, but i realized that it was me doing it when i put the key in my pocket, and sat down it some how pushed the button to open the trunk. I have the leather key saver on which protects the key but i think it aids in hitting the button just right in my pocket.

It happened to me 3 times until I figured out that I put the key in my pocket and if I am inside a building but close to the parking lot where my car is, something in my pocket may press the key and the trunk opens.

I've had it twice. Both times when my car was parked in the parking deck near my office. The car was unlocked too. It sounds like from what I'm reading that it's likely caused by me inadvertently hitting the key in my pocket. Has anyone experienced this and determined this was NOT the cause?

Yep me too - I found mine over the weekend with boot/trunk open and windows down.

In this case it was my 2yo girl that had been playing with my keys!

The boot release button on the key should be fairly insensitive and it requires a good long push to open the boot.

It's happening because you own an e60. Why does the back seat thump? Why does the dash rattle? Why does the car stall in the middle of an intersection? Why is the sun warm?

Just drive and don't ask questions, sir. Start asking too many questions and Bangle will send his boys after you.
