It wouldn't just be an overkill, it would take away your BFD!
The rear fogs would allways light up when you use the brakes, and in case of emergency braking no difference would be visible fo rthe following driver.

Ah. gotcha... didnt know it was already being used as Adaptive break lights... I thought it was not being used and just wasted... So do Euro cars with rear fogs not have adaptive break lights?

Euro spec E60's have BFD too, but our brake light is only half the size of yours, the outter side. So when doing an emergency brake, the whole brake light lights up, what the US E60 does as standard. That means, the US E60 allready has the bigger/more brake lights!

Or does it work when you step on it really hard when stopped at a stand still? Not sure if its a good idea for me to test that out here in Los Traffic-angeles... and plus I cant see my brakes when driving...

It only works when ABS is in use/active.

So, you can't see it yourself - only if you are following your car when somebody else drives it.
I've seen it on a 3series and I have seen the difference between US and German spec rear lights myself on the last meeting in Germany.
I haven't seen the BFD in use on an E60, but I was told that this is what happens.

Anyone have a pic of how the European Brake lights light up? Euro brake lights only light up the outter edge right? Unlike this one where the WHOLE thing is lit up.

Now wheres the Adaptive brake lights located? For North America.

In the US the whole light lights up when you brake, and the rear foglights light are used for the BFD.
BFD in Europe = the whole light lights up, just like in the US during regular braking.
BFD happens in two parts (all E60's): First the regular brake light, then (when ABS kicks in) the second light gets activated.

We don't get much fog here, but I do use them during very heavy rain to be more visible. Or to try and wake up people driving behind me with brights on
