Rear foglight on is very annoying in the best of circumstances. I think it is often turned on by accident when the ignoramus driver turns on his front fogs in clear daylight.

Iceman, Do they have Daytime running lights in your country? They are required here for Motorcycles for quite some time and are on many new cars today.

I can't beleive this?? Your using your rear fog light on normal conditions. In the UK it is highly illegal, as it s very distracting and causes accidents!

Maybe part of the disagreement between the fog lights use issue has to do with different cultures. We are taught here in the US that more lights equals more safety. We get insurance discounts for driving with our headlights on during the day. And many cars, including my 545is, came with this option turned on.
I personally agree with you and do not drive with them on and correct me if I am wrong but if you are in fog and are driving with you fog lights on you should turn the headlights off.

Yes. Driving in fog means, foglights on, headlights off, well in park position...
More lights isn't more safety!
Use of foglights without fog is illegal in Germany. Front foglights are not getting enforced very often, but rear foglights do.
DRL's are no option in Germany, but they are not illegal, since they are legal and required when driving in other nordic countrys.

Please correct me if I'm wrong that Iceman and others does not like rear foglights on, and I totally on the same boat with them. It's just like someone driving with left leg resting on brake pedal which causing brake lights on all the time. It's really annoying. Front headlight is not really bad but because it's freeform, some will be really annoying. Conclusion, turn them off when you don't need it.

I am sure if you polled us here in the US most would not even know to turn their headlights off to fully benefit from the fog lights in foggy conditions. Also I might venture to say that US fog lights are not as powerful as european fog lights because they do not do much even in the fog.

A funny point some US cars you must have your headlights on to turn on your foglights. I tired on a Firbird we once owned to turn off the headlights and just use the fog lights. All that was left on were the parking lights
