Nope. You should be okay with just the brake pads. Where are you located?

Hey n0odlez714
I would of course do the change at dealers with OEM parts.
That costs maybe a bit more (not much at least over here) but the
warranty for the work and parts is always worth something,
especially when we are talking about the brakes!
But if you do it yourself remember to renew the sensors and
reset the iDrive.
Also clean/check all the parts around as the disks etc.
If you are not a pro, don't do it yourself!
Where did you change the front pads?

Well I just paid an OEM dealer in the UK to replace the rear pads on my E61 and I will not be doing that again. Their fees were totally and utterly ridiculous. I felt raped. The bill came to over ?300.
Unless the E60/61 are totally weird changing brake pads is easy. I will do it myself the next time. The only issue will be how to reset the idrive, if it needs to be. For that I guess I might have to take it to a dealer of some sorts (Birds Auto most likely) and get them to do it. But I will NOT be paying ?150+ labour, and ?5 for 'brake cleaner' again.
and they wonder why BMW dealers have a bad reputation...

I still have my OEM pads off my 2007 530i, less than 1000 miles on them. Changed them to aftermarket because I couldn't deal with the brake dust.
I'm not sure if the 525i's brakes are the same size, but if they are... make me an offer! I'm located in Downtown LA.

I usually go with stock pads on my street-driven cars since they tend to be a good compromise between dust, performance, and wear. Some of the "racing style" pads don't work great when cold, and some eat your rotors up.
Pads are easy to replace, but you do have to do it right or things get unpleasant, so you might want to have someone check your work if you haven't done it before. Any tire shop should be able to handle this, but finding one that cares is always tough.
RE: shops telling you that you need rotors: I don't see which model you have, but I'd at least put a dial caliper on the rotor and get an idea of the thickness. Information is power when dealing with shops: Minimum rear disk spec for 520/525/530 models looks like 18.4mm, and for the 545 minimum spec is 22.4mm. If you don't feel vibrations when braking, I wouldn't worry about runout specs.
If you replace the rotors, the caliper bolts take 67Nm to replace. I don't find any mention of these being non-reusable stretch bolts, but maybe someone can confirm this.
