I began to drive my car this afternoon, and while I was backing up I hear this awful metal on metal noise. So, I pulled forward and heard it as well, noticing it was in sinc with my wheel rotation. I noticed that the brake pad on my rear left was in contact with the rotor.

What can cause it to suddenly do that? Any viable solutions?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

sounds like it's time for new brakes my friend. What does iDrive say when you check rear brake pads life??

I changed the brakes last summer so I've only put about 8K miles on them. That's what is puzzling...and it's just the one side. It's not making contact all the way around, just in one spot and it makes contact without the brake being depressed.

Now, now - that's a 'private' matter best left to discussion in PM's

Bad caliper + warped rotor will cause what you describe.

Or bad e-brake cable (do these cars have cables?) + warped rotor.

If as described, I vote for sticky piston in caliper.
