WOW! That knocking definitely doesn't sound normal to me!! I would be worried if I heard that coming from my engine, and I hope that you get some satisfaction. I agree with everything that the others have said, and I think that if BMWNA is involved, more will be done to make sure you're happy.

Good luck!

yep, I am glad I took the initiative and called BMWNA directly to tell them about how absurd the dealerships "diagnosis" was. I now just have to wait until a regional rep can take a look at it. I pray he actually has the cahoonas to fess up that BMW messed up on the early production of the N52 engine and will fix the lifters for me. hehe maybe he will even replace the full head for me, but I doubt that

I have that "blue water" color in a 328xi loaner now - its certainly a different color, but I am not sure I would choose it... and I agree the 3 Series is not comfortable by comparison. My co-workers say I am spoiled by the 545i now and dont understand how I can say the car is just ok... driving the 3 just doesnt excite me.... and for only having 10k miles, the suspension sounds beat...

Good luck with the Regional Rep.

yep, you are totally correct. I don't want to sound all uppity or whatever, but I couldn't ever see myself driving anything lower than a 5 series now that I own one and know how much for comfortable they are than a 3, and well the 1 is just straight ugly.
