Ok, I searched for about an hour and didn't find any up to date info about this, so please don't flame.

Are there any plans to add any Euro-style real time traffic capabilities to our US nav systems at any point in the future? If so, will existing nav units be capable of the upgrade, or will it only be in new vehicles?

Thanks in advance.

lol ... i don't think such an infrastructure exists here in the US to support such a system. America ... land of the analog phone lines, TDMA/CDMA networks ... & fast food .. oh. almost forgot walmart ;-) and (relatively for now) cheap gas.

I think Acura just improved a better navigation system with real time traffic information. All the new RL are using the system now and available to most U.S. large cities.

Do you know if it's their exclusive infrastructure, or could it be available to others like BMW? It seems hard to imagine Acura would fund a nationwide exclusive infrastructure...but who knows?

I found this after looking around a little bit. I wonder if Sirius will offer something similar in the future?

Right, the traffic info is provided in the RL by XM radio. So If Sirrus offers it then it should be easily integrated with the NAV in the E60.

Europe has all that "cool" stuff becuase all of the countries with that cool stuff are socialist countries with 8-15% unemployment. They all tax the hell out of their citizens, and you would not be able to afford a BMW if you lived there. A 525i with no options costs $65,000 EURO (80K USD) in Holland and slightly less in Germany. A 545 is over 100K EURO. Many people drive company cars. They tax gasoline so that it is over 5 EURO a gallon. They have fast food just like America with MacDonalds and BK on every corner. They also have HILLBILLYS and REDNECKS and lazy fat people that do not work. They shop at Aldi in Germany and need to rush there after work becuase it closes at 8:00 (used to be 6:00). Most Northen Europeans live in Apartment blocks and have no yard, so they buy or rent a small plot of land in a park full of little shacks and that 10 ft by to foot piece of land is where they go on Sunday to drink beer and tend to the garden. Nice, but we have it better. Trust me, we have it much better. I am in Europe 1 week a month, I have seen the nice fancy places, the dumpy places and the middle, and I can tell you, without any hesitation, that our standard of living is remarkable here in the USA as is our freedom.

On the downside, we have a lot of lazy, stupid people that live in poverty by their own choice and get involved with drugs, guns and crime and get handouts from the working middle class. The only difference between us and Europe is that our poor people are violent. South America and Africa have the violence likes the US, Europe has much less. That is true.

So please, stop ripping America, especailly you Americans, and we do have the system for real time traffic being created by a private company called XM. They offer it in major cities and it works in Hondas and Acuras. Every day you wake up in your nice house or condo and get in your nice BMW to go to your nice job, you should be grateful that you are lucky enough to live here in the USA. This is not meant to be a political rant, just my thoughts based on my observations abroad and here in the USA.
