I always thought it was plastic when I see any wood trim. Makes me happier in that sense

it's plastic.
i removed several E46 and E39 trims, they are plastic ...
Yes, unjustly they are made of cheap plastic but they cost a fortune.

And above to this shit, they also give a creaky sound when temperatures change.

Really lo-life BMW!

Its plastic, but why would you care? Its not like its vital for its functionality to be wood. It looks like wood, and this is what its there for - to look "like" wood. And as for the price - would you thik its is justified if it was wood rather than plastic? I really don't care....

Its a luxury thing.

If you got hardwood floors in your house and later found out it wasn't real wood, you'd be pretty pissed.

Some parts are definately wood, which is what they claim. Some of the highly formed pieces could be plastic however.

I always thought it was plastic wiht a thin thin layer of wood on top to make it look like wood... I think OLD E34s had real wood.

I believe EBMCS03 is correct in saying that there is a very thin sliver of wood. This of course is coated in a "plastic" substance only to protect it from scratches. and the backing may be metallic, but I have only seen the very back with hardened plastic.

But, I haven't taken it apart.
