A long time ago I'm sure I saw some Q and A's about the operation of the Auto box. People were complaining that things were a bit sluggish. The reply from those in the know was that when you first get a BMW the auto box adjusts to your style of driving in the first 1000 miles. It then stays that way. Because people often drive more ponderously to begin with in a new car, you are often then stuck with a gearbox that doesn't respond in a particualrly sporty way.

The answer was this - as I remember - something like you put your key in and turn once, then hold your foot down on the acceleratot for 30 seconds. This re-sets the computer. You can then drive it properly for the next 1000 miles and the car will then respond as you would want it to.

The reason I'm asking is that a friend of mine has this problem and I just could not remember exactly what you were supposed to do. Does anyone out there remember this and can confirn or deny the above.

Many thanks...

Fallow this sequence

1. Press gas pedal without releasing

2. insert key & turn to first click

3. hold for 25-30 sec

4. turn key to start then release pedal

enjoy

reset will NOT work if you insert key first then press pedal

I like to do this reset in the mornings before i turn car on for the first time. I observed the idrive takes longer to boot-up with the BMW splash screen for about 25-30 sec. If you turn car off and turn on again you will notice idrive radio and your personal settings will turn on immediately

I am quite certain my reset has worked by inserting the key first and then pressing the gas pedal. Others may wish to chime in on this sequence.

oh yeah, according to the orig thread, you have to stick the keyfob in, and press START once to turn on all the electronics.

Is this "learned" transmission on every E60 model or just LCI and up?
