I currently have the stock chrome badge on my car. I want to swap it out with the matte black version. Is there some sort of tool, template, or guide I can use to place the new badges in exactly the same spot. I want it to look as clean and aligned as possible.

Thanks,

Balbs

Painter's tape. Just put it on the trunk and slap the letters above the line of the tape as a guide.

Beat me to it Howitzer. Obviously put the tape on before taking off the numbers, also place the tape vertically along one side of the numbers (makes for exact placement). Once the old numbers are taken off remove the old glue if there is any. Clean each of the spots then put the new numbers on and remove the tape.

Well, what if the car is already de-badged. How would you get the new badge installed in the same place?

You can't that was the entire point of them taping and marking with a sharpie on the tape exactly where the badge is. If you debadged and didn't mark then you pretty much have to guess where it goes.

how about you find another e60 that's still badged, make a stencil/template of it's position on the trunk...and have it....

When reapplying badge numbers, what's the best tape to use and where's the best place to get it?

I used blue painter's tape (as mentioned in Calvin's write up!) It works like a charm!
