Vern - I am in NJ also. Which dealer did your upgrade? Mine was done at JMK but they told me that 19.1 is not yet available in the East.

The upgrade that they did for me is 19.0 which they acknowledged does not yet get the RDS to work.

Right Vern - I asked them how come California has 19.1 and we don't have it here in the East. Got a non-response. I am nagging them every week or two re: timeframe for 19.1 . Will keep you posted if I hear anything.

? What does RDS stand for??

I got my CIP upgraded last week and my SA specifically stated that I now have v19.1.1.? She said that's the latest version.

EuroCarFan,

Just curious; What dealer in the Bay Area did your upgrade? In the near future I'm going in to have my first oil service and at the same time get the bluetooth retrofit. Interested in confirming that if we have the same dealer that I should expect the same CIP version.

Hey Woodbeast. I got it done at Stevens Creek BMW. I was thinking of getting bluetooth retrofitted also. Any chance you know how much that costs?

EuroCarFan,

Same Dealer I'll be going to. They quoted me $465. Interestingly, when I inquired (just to see how much it might cost) several months ago, they threw out a $160 number. Of course this wasn't a formal quote and was about the time that this functionality was being made available. Based on some of the discussions here, it sounds as if the software upgrade can be problematic and time consuming. This may be the basis for the higher cost.

My car is a May/June 04 build and probably has CIP 11.X on it for all I know and if I'm going to pay this much, I want to get the latest version of the software and thus, my inquiry to you.

Since you have had your CIP updated, as I understand it, as long as your car was built after March of 2004, it should just be a matter of the dealer activating bluetooth on it. So, I would imagine it would be cheaper for you. I'm basically paying for the software update as I didn't present a case to them to upgrade the CIP to fix another problem.

I just hope the upgrade doesn't cause problems. Other than a few clitches with the sound (fixed by re-booting), I've haven't had any issues with the car.

woodbeast,

If u are upgrading from 11.x to ....

The car required a mandatory software update for (recall) emissions.

I too got my car in 5/04 and have not updated the software.

I got my car back after the most recent re-programming an RDS is acting weird.
1) When i preset a station, the song title gets displayed instead of the station's name/ID. Very annoying.

2) When i try to input new presets, i choose a station, then hit "Store". When i do, my previously set preset stations (1-12) either goes away or preset stations 8-12 goes away. And when i get out of the 'store' mode and get back to the presets, only the presets 1-8 shows up. When i restart the car, the presets will only show 1-8. Then something happens several hours later and my original 1-12 stations will re-appear.

This is very weird.

I have that exact issue, but only with some stations. Has to be some kind of deficiency with BMW's implementation of RDS that is exposed by some RDS transmissions.

Mine was upgraded last week. The display now shows the name of the radio station instead of the dial number. However, I've noticed that the sound system go mute for 5 to 10 seconds every so often. Happens even when I'm playing a CD. More bugs in the software.

Ditto here as well. I have been driving it this way for a week. It is F***ing annoying. I have to live with it for another week. Definitely a software glitch!!

It happens for me every 3-5 minutes and lasts 5 to 10 seconds. What a nuisance!!
On some stations, mine shows name, and, on others, it shows numbers--19.01.01. I have no radio cut-out problems, but it is hard to set some of my presets. And, setting them sometimes is unpredictable too. Good thing I listen mostly to SERIOUS and CD's.

You would think BMW would try out those things before they add the RDS feature back to the car. Do they have more than one person wrking on this software stuff?????
