I always hear rattles from the front passenger door/seat when the car goes over bumps. The only work around before I bring it to my dealer is to turn up the music!!

somewhere in rear shelf area. Definitely worse when cold.

lets not forget squeaky door seals. impossible to permanently remedy, occasional wipe down with damp clean towel does the trick temporarily.

I owned 2 E39's. Dead silent-undertakers cars. My E60-creeks and moans. Most of the noise comes from the rear. Already had the sunroof seal replaced. Got so bad...so bad- that I could not talk on the phone with all the windows closed and the Air-con OFF!
Now all I hear is creaking, shifting...from the rear parcel shelf area...already had it to the dealer twice. Replaced the sunscreen. Zip-nada. Lined the parcel shelf with some kind of foam or insulation...zip-nada. When I roll over a driveway entry or slight incline at a slow speed the whole rear passenger compartment creeks and moans...

The longer I own this car the more I feel it is a R&D project in disguise. No other 5er I have had has been as problematic.
build quality is declining. BMW is cranking out 1er's 3er's 5'ers 7er's..ohhh yeah, don't forget that new 6er. Then we got trucks...X3, X5, maybe an X coupe!!!Whoa can't wait for that one!
And how about some roadsters...Z4, maybe Z6 coming, stand by for a Z8 replacement!
Gotta have something for everybody...
Are we ever going to stand still long enough to not repeat Daimler Chryslers dilution?

60 thousand dollar cars should be cast without rattles and sqeaks.

Oh, yeah today my steering wheel started making a noise when I gave it a 2/3 twirl in a reversing move out of a parking lot.
Same sound was repeated when I put it in drive-plastic scratching/grating against plastic sound-trim issue I am sure.

05 545....10,000 miles on it!

BMW....shake rattle and roll!

Somebody in this forum once compared the car to a Spanish Galleon

Squeaky doors on mine. Will get dealer to take a look at next service.

Me too, like a whiney squeak.

Rear parcel shelf/seats are squeaky too.

Lumbar support on driver's seat creaks a little when going around corners.

Apart from that, rock solid.

Yeah, longtime member of the club! - rear parcelshelf area rattle/creak over uneven roads. Occasional squeak from what I assume is a spring in driver's seat

Hope this help with the rear seat/shelf rattle i took it to valencia dealer they removed my seats and insulated with some patting over it and the rear seat/shelf rattle went away, that was 38,000 miles go, i have 46,000 miles now. My second
rattle just occurred in the armrest center console, over bumps weird, hard to duplicate, but once in a while it happens over excessive bumps like going over a railroad track then i can hear it.

Well I think I've fixed the back seat squeak. From the boot, I noticed I could push the rear seats forward about 1mm or so. Thus, I slackened off the four torx bolts and re-tightened then without the slackness in the rear seats. Took it for a spin - no squeak.

If it doesn't hold, it's a dead easy job to drop the four bolts out and slide some more foam (I note the factory fitted foam is a little thin and doesn't really "pack" the gap.
