I am enjoying my 545i but it's freaking me out.

First, there's this whinning, electric motor sound that comes on from time to time. Even if the car's off and the odometer lights up.

Second. The radio and the i-drive screen comes on from time to time. It scared the hell out of me the first time it did that, hearing stuff coming out of your garage at night.

Third, and this is the most serious one. My garage door opens and closes by itself. It scared my daughter and myself to death when it did that. This only happened after I programmed the Home-link door opener.

Do you guys have the same experience?

I have none of this. But my garage door opener only works if my car stands right in front of the door, while all others work from more than 100 feet away...

I get the same whining sound from time to time. i think there was a TSB about his, though I have never looked into it too deeply. It always goes away quickly.

The reason the homelink may not work has to do with the windshield. If you have protective glass or the thin stip of tint on the top of your window, this may interfere with the signal. There is a matallic type metal in the tint at the top of the window messing up the signal.

My window has the tint at the top, homelink works great. I hit the button half way down the block and the door is open when I get up the driveway. I can come from either direction and it works. My .02.

Well,

I heard from Beewang that the whinning comes from SMG pump powering up, or shutting down. I feel so much better now.

The homelink works great, albeit with shorter signal range than regular remote. But what concerns me, is not the reception quality, but false signals.

What about your radios? do they turn on by itself from time to time? I had to start the car and off, to turn it off. Isn't it weird?
