Radio Reception Poor?
#1
Hi
Anybody else have symptoms similar to this?
(Rear Window Dry = Good reception (Fm used mainly)
Window foggy = Intermittent/poor reception
Window wet = Poor reception
Window frosted over = virtually no reception
2004 E60 525d if it helps.
A most irritating phenomena especially as obviously problem is much worse in winter. Any solutions other than a new window which i guess is the most likely fault?

The following post contains a link to a diagram showing where the different antennas are in the rear window:

You may want to carefully inspect your rear window to see if any of the antenna lines are scratched or broken in some way. If you find a broken circuit, it can usually be repaired without replacing the window glass...

Thanks Rudy
Did find the pdf a little difficult to intrerpret but i do have breaks in both vertical and horizontal lines close to the top. They have been manufactured like this though (Its a factory fit screen still 90% sure). So im a little mystified??

The factory breaks are by design -- don't worry about them. What you're looking for is a non-factory break that might have happened due to a scratch or something...

Hi thanks all for the info.
Cant see anything wrong with the rear window lines at all then. Another bit of info the radio reception is also dramatically poorer when the HRW is switched on.
Im imagining the join from rear window to chassis loom for the antenna is most likely to be the culprit, possibly a little corrosion or fretting there? Is this join only accessible when changing the window or can you get at it in situ?
Are there any other connectors to look for on the way to the dashboard that may be to blame? Im just reluctant to spend money on a new window before exhausting all other options.
