V1 is well worth it. friends have always let me borrow theirs for long drives in the past, and I bought mine this year.

I have a Passport in all of my cars. I'm sure I'd be happy with the V1 as well. I rarely drive the speed limit and haven't had a ticket since 1990 when they got me with a helicopter!

V1 is old school, Escort or Beltronics has the newer GPS units that have red light camera, speed camera and known speed traps geotagged. Nice feature and their database gets updated weekly. You can also geotag known false alarms that log specific frequency and radar band, but will still alert to other radar at same location. You can also track and display multiple radar/ Lazer threats at the same time.
There are much fewer false alarms with these units which makes each alarm something you notice better. One negative is the V1 is $100 cheaper than the Escort or Beltronics.
The V1 guys will tout the "Indian Technology", which is that the V1 has red arrows.

I heard somewhere that (at least in CT) radar detectors are legal to have, but illegal to operate...true or false?
if its true, say you do get pulled over what do you do just unplug it or have it always hidden or whats the trick?

I think they take it whether it's on or not

I have used various models of radar detectors for the past 20+ years and they have all worked great on radar signals. They have not worked well with lasers however. The laser beam is so narrow you don't get any warning when they hit the car ahead of you. By the time you hear the laser warning from your detector, they have already got you. Instant-On Radar is also deadly. Best bang for the buck is probably the Escort or Passport. The V1 is expensive but very effective.
