I have a 2009 535xiT (E61) and contemplating BEL STIR remote radar detector install and have a few questions I was not able to find answers ( I searched...)

1. The RD came with the "radio mute" cable, but I have no idea where to connect it in our cars.
RD instruction simply states "connect this cable to a compatible audio device". I expected a 1K+ RD to come with better instructions than this.

2. How do I remove an ashtray (mine located just below the NAV DVD slot) - I tried pulling it out but no luck.

3. Also, if anybody can suggest an access spot to a driver side firewall to run wires, I'd be greatful

Hmm, pushing the ashtray in causes it to open, but I can't remove it out of the dash

No help on wiring but I do question the install.

My understanding is that for best range you should mount the detector towards the bottom on the window not up high (under the mirror)?

My RD sensor will be mounted in the lower front bumper, where the night vision sensor is installed on the cars so equipped.

To get to ashtray I had to remove:
- front right wood trim
- center trim piece around CD and DVD units
- ash tray surround trim
- undo 2 screws under that trim piece
- pull ashtray holder out

Thanks to BMW for making this a 2hr procedure
