I looked up some stats in Road and Track. I have found that they are very closely matched, close enough that shifting speed could render the victor.

545iAuto 2004: 325 Hp, 5.2 (0-60), 12.7 (0-100), 13.7@104 (qtr mi), .89 skid.

S4 manual 2006: 340 Hp, 5.3 (0-60), 13.4 (0-100),13.8@101.7 (qtr mi), .87 skid.

I have the SMG which I would think should be faster, but these are the most aggressive numbers (Both taken from the summary page at end of current issue) that I have seen for either car from a major magazine.

I thought the numbers for audi s4 and bmw 545i stick (also smg should also be there).

0-100km/h in 5.6 sec for the audi and 5.9 sec for the bimmer. That's a very close match. Hmmm...maybe the smg shifting time could result in the victory.

Overall i bet my money on the bimmer.

I still would like to have the S4's paddle shift autobox vs. my 545's steptronic - much more convenient and feels more sporty. Too bad the S4 doesn't have DSG as of yet.

The Audi DSG is not more sporty, it upshifts itself if you don't. It downshift too early as well. Its not sporty, its more like an automatic.

i reported a short while ago that i beat an S4 ... however it was a cab. pre-DMS but i had him on acceleration even though he planted slightly before myself and i was 4 up in my cabin.
one thing i did say was that the noise the S4 makes was much nicer than the 545!
