So, I'm driving last night in Fort Lauderdale and all of a sudden I hear a chime and then a yellow snowflake appears just above where my outside temp shows up in the instrument cluster. All I know is it was a cold 37 F degrees (YES - Miami area was FREEZING yesterday) and I had my heat on. What did the chime and snowflake mean? At first I thought it meant - "ya buddy, it's could out, be careful!"

Basically means, "watch it buddy, there might be ice on the road....drive carefully."

It means "ya buddy, it's cold out, be careful!"

It should activate once the temperature gets as low as 3c, which, co-incidentally, translates to 37F

It is an outside temperature alert ... exactly at 37 degrees F it will warn you of possible icing conditions. Help keep those oranges warm will ya!

+1. That warning goes off everytime you start the car and it detects an exterior temp of 37 degrees F or lower.

Thanks - I thought it meant something along those lines. Man... I'm truly happy I got my car. I learn something new all the time and can't believe how much thought BMW puts into their vehicles.

You're welcome

Download a copy of the owners manual from the information section of the forum - it's a lot easier to search for answers on a PC/MAC than reading through the paper version!
