My Ride: 1985 325e (sold it in 1996) // 2001 Z3 2.5 / White / Blk Lthr / 5-spd (wife's) // 04 530i / Metallic Blk / Beige Lthr / 6-spd / Logic7 / 19" 166 Michelin Pilot Sp
I've searched and discovered some descriptions of the vehicle check, and have read the manual.
My question is, I have a 2004 530i with just under 30k miles on it. I bought it about 9 months ago. I also bought it not from a BMW dealer in Virgnia, but from a somewhat reputable foreign car place, and it was not certified. I am quite happy with it so far. I now live in Minneapolis. The iDrive tells me that the vehicle check is due in about 200 miles, with the oil change due in about 4500 miles. Since I have not had the car looked at by a BMW dealer since I bought it, should I have the vehicle check done by a BMW dealer? Or should I simply check the lights, wipers, brakes, etc. myself?
I am thinking that a BMW dealer would be the way to go, for at least piece of mind that they would agree that the car is in good shape. But, it's expensive, and I'm already nervous about the cost of the oil change and associated service?
In my shoes, what would you do? Thanks.

Also Terrformer, if you know how to change oil yourself I would recommend you doing it. The last time my vehicle was in for an oil change, the charge on the receipt was about $300, luckly it was under maintenance agreement, but there is no way I am paying $300 for $60 worth of parts and 30 min of my time!!!! That's retarded...
