Hi and welcome to the forum. I've been looking for a good used set of OEM 166s and from what I recall, spacers are recommended. Do you know which offset you have? I think those come in a M6 offset as well, as style 166 wheels are offered as an option for the M6. I could be mistaken though I'm sure the well informed will chime in soon.

With OEM M5 166, spacers are not necessary though the stance will look a lot better with it.
The fronts are running a little wider than what's recommended (245/35) but will fit. I think the back tires are just right however, the recommended size is 275/30. I believe the tire sizes might be a bit too tall.
As far as spacers go, it's not necessary but would look more aggressive. If you do decide to use spacers, go with 15mm in rear to get flush with the fenders or, 12mm (like me) to be a little "tucked." Keep in mind my rear tires are only 275. Your 285 will definitely be closer to the fender so 12mm might do the trick.
BTW you joined in 2008 and only now is your first post?! wow Very belated Welcome!
