Which non run flat tires are the best for the E60? right now my 2004 530 have 245/40/18 Pirelli PZero Nero M&S tires and they are very comfortable but the handling of the car is pure S.H.I.T. Since I got the car back in january of 2006 ( purchased as a used car ) I've been trying to test how the car behave in a quick change of lane going about 80mph, let me tell you that it feels very poor. I feel that the chassis goes first and the tires go after. It feels like the chassis and tires are not connected together. I dont know if the problem is the active steering or if the current tires have soft walls.
I really like the comfort of the current tires but I would give a little comfort for better handling. A few question
1) What brand and model of tire do you recommend for the sport package of 530?
2) Should I get run flat tires instead ?

My Ride: 2006 550i Sport Package, Cold Weather Package, Premium Sound Package, Comfort Access, Xenon Headlights, Adaptive Headlight Control, Navigation System, Steptronic Transmission. Silver Gray Metallic with Gray Leather. Added Red rear reflectors. Swapped stock Style 124 wheels and Bridgestone run-flat tires for BMW Style 125 5-Double Spoke wheels, 8" x 19" front, 9.5" x 19" rear with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires, 245/40YR-19 front and 275/30YR-19 rear.
I have 19" Michelin PS2s and the ride and handling are outstanding. The 550i with Sport Package and this wheel/tire set-up is the best handling sedan I have ever driven. Reminds me of the handling on my 911s. Nice flat cornering, no tire squeal, no wheel hop over bumps (which I make every effort to avoid). It is great!

PS2's, Conti SC2's or Goodyear GS-D3's all are good.
Surely your current tyres being M & S should not be expected to deliver high performance, they are designed for severe winrer use only. So any High Performance summer tyre will show an improvement during normal driving conditions.

However, I believe the Continental Sport Contact 2's (About to be SC3) are pretty damn good and about 10-15% cheaper... (And fitted as OEM to M5)

Bridgestone Potenza RE050 NON RF here
Agree the PS2 have the best handling and tire wear is very good for this type of tire. Would suggest spending the extra $25 for the free damage replacement if offered. I have replaced two prematurely because of "driver error" in Michelin's words. Not a durable tire to light curb scrapes, non-dsc agressive driving, etc.

Having PS2's myself I'd agree
