Hi Everyone,
I have a rattle behind or above my Nav Display on a 2006 550I Sport. If I remove and unplug my Nav Display, would I have to have BMW Recode it? I think the answer is no, since the display is going back into the same car and not a different BMW. I also have a 2005 645CI E63 Sport that has a rattle in between the radio, cd, and the glove box. Same as above, do I need to get my radio recoded by BMW? I think the answer also is no. I was just double checking never can be too sure.
Thanks Everyone,
Marc

so long as you disconect the battery first the computer won`t be able to log any faults.

Make sure you check under the hood for this item before tearing apart your dash:

SI B51 13 04
Body Equipment August 2007
Technical Service

This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. B51 13 04 dated June 2007.

(New) designates changes to this revision

SUBJECT
Rattling Noise from Center Display

MODEL
E60, E61 (5 Series sedan and sports wagon) produced up to June 2007

E63, E64 (6 Series coupe and convertible) produced up to June 2007

SITUATION
A rattling noise may be heard from behind the center display or lower windshield area when the vehicle is driven over bumps.

CAUSE
The retaining bolts for the cross strut brace on the center support bracket, or on the strut towers, have worked themselves loose. In some cases, the threaded holes of the aluminum center support bracket have become damaged.

PROCEDURE

(New) Inspect all 4 bolts which secure the cross strut brace to the body of the vehicle. 2 of the bolts (shown by the arrow) secure the brace to the center support bracket and the other 2 secure the ends of the bar to the strut towers.

If any of these bolts are loose, all 4 should be replaced with new bolts (PN 51 71 7 063 831). Torque new bolts to an increased torque specification of 27Nm.

3. If this 27 Nm torque cannot be achieved on the bolts securing the brace to the center support bracket, replace the center support bracket (PN 51 61 7 010 593) according to Repair Instruction RA 51 71 373.

Thanks everyone for your input. I had no trouble with any error messages. I forgot about the Service Information bulletin, I had that done to my E63 about 2 years ago.
