[i dont understand all the noise about x drive ,quatro, all wheel drive ,4 wheeel drive. What about the other 362 days per year.Go with bigger engine and forget 4 wheel drive. There are 362 days annually that you dont need this x drive stuff

What is with the occasional RWD vs. AWD debate? I don't get it. There are clear reasons for both and that is why BMW, Audi and MB offer both.

Enjoy your ride.

I'll explain it to you. Where many live, there is snow on the ground for 5 months of the year. So, a 530xi (soon to be a 535xi) is a definite asset during those winter months. The M5 will have serious difficulty keeping up with a 530xi during the winter months. Of course it will blow it away on dry pavement. It's a personal choice. For me, I like the feeling of moving when I press the gas pedal, no matter what the road surface is like, so I opt for an xi. If you drive mostly on dry surfaces, I can understand your reasoning to buy the bigger engine. What I'd like to know is why BMW can't offer the 550 as an xi?

Are you saying that others cannot discuss on this issue? Personally, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Personally, I have no preference over the other. I just liked the interior of BMW more. I considered getting an A6, but I felt that the e60 reigned over it.

I agree with you.

The M5 kind of " dies " during winter. No traction on wet or snowy/slippery roads. DSC light is on all the time.
Also when overtaking you feel uncertain with a RWD car.

This is why I bought the 330xd as our second car. It?s absolutely outstanding when it comes to traction and stability in the above conditions. The M5 doesn?t have a chance in the 0 - 100 km/h sprint

As for the comparison between Q and X ( have driven both on snow and wet ) I feel X being more sporty and Q more dull/safe.

IMO both systems are very good.
