Hey guys, I am fairly new to the forum and have done EXTENSIVE reading about the E60's. I am currently looking to purchase an E60 but I am leaning towards a 6 speed 545i just because I want that extra power when running down the highway. I am currently looking at a 2004 545i with 83k on the clock for $14,000 but after taxes and fees it comes up to $17,000 or so. Today as I was searching online I found another 2004 545i with 79k from a private owner for $13,000. My concern is that the dealer is offering me a 3 month warranty verus no warranty on the one from the private owner, the difference in price is almost $4,000 which to me is almost a no brainer. My question is how reliable are the 545i 6 speed and should I look into another E60 class?

Any and all input is appreciated

+1 warranty for 3 months is not much.. $13k for that mileage is pretty good. Have the car checked out prior to buying to be sure.

save your money, pay a little extra to get a 535I, the biggest issue with the 535i is the fuel pumps.

I would go with the private seller. Just have it checked out and you should be fine

Yea I thought so too regarding warranty, I'm going to see the private owner tomorrow but the major thing with me was the colors lol. They both have black interiors but the dealer has a silver interior and the private is mystic blue. I am not a fan of dark color cars... but I'll see how it turns out.

Thats A LOT of problems mentioned... I completely decided to forget about the one at the dealer and the private owner is not even picking up my calls now. I'm going to check online to see the differences the 545i and the other 5 series... maybe my best bet will be to go with a 525i auto since it's hard to find a 545i 6 speed within my price range.

Aren't you going to have to pay taxes on the private sale too?

Yea but the taxes can be paid with time, I can purchase the vehicle just to have it secure and then pay the taxes in a month or so... I have a friend who can give my temporary plates in the mean time. I should thought that was a great deal at the time
