All,

Hello everyone, I'm a new memeber here due to the fact that I'm flirting with buying a used 2008 manual 550i with 48k miles on it, and I've been trying to research/learn as much I can about it. The car has the premium and sport packages on it. One thing I didn't like was I thought the car didn't have an auxilary input for an ipod/mp3 player, but I did find one that was located in the rear of the car facing the rear seats on the back of the center console. Is this stock? I was under the impression that if the car had an auxilary port it would be located inside the center console, not facing the rear seats located with the rear air controls. I know the car doesn't have the logic 7 sound upgrade, but I'm wondering why this port is back there and not inside the center console storage unit. I was thinking I may need to grab a Dension Gateway 500 to set myself up for connectivity to a portable device until I found this.

Aside from that anything else you guys may want to recommend I need to check mechinically before making a purchase.

MIne has the same exact option and unfortunately no USB mod. USB is the best option but to expensive to do from the dealer and then you have to program your car to be able to work.

Yeah, check the wheels to see if they are bent or cracked. There is a current thread about this, and mine were bent when I bought it. Also, with the V8, there is an oil dipstick - check it out - does the oil look new, smell ok, etc.

Also, there is supposedly a leak that develops over time with the V8's, coolant fluid and its called a weeping hole leak or some shit. There was a posting about it here a year or so ago. You might want to look especially hard down in below the engine for coolant - probably ok but i'd check it out.

Finally, drive it and see how it feels - should track straight with no vibrations, should sound good, all the normal stuff.

hope this helps.

Yes, be sure and check out the wheels. I made a recent 550i purchase and they are replacing a wheel. I actually splurged on the wheel and tire warranty too as my wife tends to hit pot holes...
