Are you experiencing an unreasonable tread roar?

yes. even my brother in law commented on the noise today.

it is loud, and it doesn't even sound even. also there are slight vibrations coming from the steering wheel. it is getting worse each day.

that's what i thought. i have another appt for the SW 16.2 on 4/27 and i will raise hell then. at least they put on the ticket that i have complained about it so the added mileage until then shouldn't be a problem. i am at 9100 miles now and will be over 10000 by 4/27

Would someone mind explaining which tires are displaying defects? I have a Feb 05 build with Dunlop run flats. Is my car at risk for these tire issues or is this related to an earlier version of the Dunlop tires?

Thanks.

I did not really notice it until 7k-9k miles.

I believe the tires will be noisier than some, just due to the tire design. I would run these for awhile, then complain. Dunlop has been pretty good about replacing the tires if yours are truely affected, at least they where through my dealer. The good thing in my case is I am getting a new set after 12k miles or so (by the time the dealer actually gets them), which I probably would only have gotten about 18k miles out of the tires anyways. Not a bad deal.

If you think they are really bad, talk to your salesman and take another one for a spin and see if it is really a problem. Maybe you have something else going on.

The steering is very responsive and you will have more road feel in it. Also, the tires grip well, so if you are running on grooved payment, you may also feel something.

My car was in last week and I got new tires. They took measurements and opened a PUMA case. BMW came back saying they would pay for half since I was about 11K miles into the tires. I do remember one day going into work that they all of a sudden sounded REALLY loud. That was about 8k miles. The next 3K miles is when I really noticed the tread wear on the insides, mostly on the front but some on the back too. As a side note, the new Dunlops sound quite and ride well, maybe better than when I first drove the car.

I'm not sure but with the mileage you have, you should be getting replacements based on the precedent already set by BMW. Then again, maybe your tread depth is much deeper than others with similar mileage. All I can say is if the tires are roaring, you should be able to get replacements...

Go back to the dealer with printouts of the following threads:

If they haven't already, once the dealer submits a PUMA case to BMW and verifies the tire tread depths, etc., BMW will probably offer a 50% reimbursement. Don't accept it. Tell them you want 100% since many others have been able to get that. Most likely, BMW will end up agreeing to pay 100% of the cost of new Dunlops. Supposedly, the new Dunlops have been redesigned so that they won't roar again in 7000 miles. The jury's still out on that one...we'll see in a few months as people begin to put the miles on the replacements...

Good luck!
