Well after going back and forth-first deciding when my factor warranty ran out recently (am at 54k miles)-2007 sport bmw with comfort seats.

I was looking at realoem.com for some prices on some more common parts that have a decent chance of going bad-such as a water pump, A/C issues, gaskets etc and even the small basic stuff was hundreds of dollars. Not to mention the labor of diagnosis and fixing.

I have had a totoally new cylinder replaced on my car 2 years ago for the dreaded ticking problem(6700), had a DISA(350) valve break off, had a new radiator (850), replaced VANOS actuator motor (400), steering shaft replaced (1000), steering wheel trim replaced (400 for the ruthenium stuff wow!), new shifter AUTO linkage/selector (110), Sun roof seals (200).

So almost 10k worth of stuff on a brand new car-some bad luck of course but it still shows how expensive stuff can be. One big thing and I wouldnt be able to afford to drive the car if it was a tranny or a big engine piece.

Anyway I changed my mind, did research and there are 2 companies that stood out-carchex and maybe 2 others. The rest had tons of bad reviews and experiences and I could not really find anything bad about the 2 I found. It was 2600 for 3 years with 45000miles, was their platnum (2nd most coverage)-only higher was the "bumper to bumper" covered more. This covers virtually everything, including all suspension shocks/strugs. Only thing is no brake discs/pads obviously or wear items. But all suspension bushings and such and all other components. 100 dollar deductable, no limit on labor hoursly charge or location you take it to and direct pay to shop-no "reimburse"

Anyway at the end of the day I have to say I feel less stres about keeping this car-not everyone feels this way as I was on the other side of the fence recently but when it came down to it-parts are just getting too expensive. Shoot a new alternator which is surely going to go within the 60-70 thousand mile mark is 900 just for the part and then hundreds for labor. Water pump is another biggie which is 500 for the electric pump and then coolan, flush and labor.

You get the picture-anyway carchex seemed like a good option for non bmw warranties.

1200 for an oveheated engine-you got away VERY lucky-I would think it would be much more than that?? Ya these cars have
wayyy too many gadgets its ridiculous-and I am not even talking about the fancy stuff, just simply the stuff to work the engine and tranny
is out of control. The active sway bars are thousands a piece-its out of control!
