i've had a low speed turning whine that i've been trying to figure out, which my dealer couldn't.
i suspected the ARS (active roll system), since it runs off the power steering pump.

i pulled the fuse for the ARS which is fuse# 76, and went for a ride. no noise. car drove a little squirly though.

this module is mounted on the lower firewall, behind the passenger front tire.
the question is why does the ARS module make noise?

did you phone your dealer and inform him of what you did? he might answer your question, and form my own experience, it might seem very good when you first do it, but a while later you'll see the side effects !

contact the dealer !

I had the same steering noise which i complained about every single time I brought my car in. (starting at 20k) They could not figure out the issue until one tech suggested changing the power steering pump and that solved the issues.

the noise(the frequency) of the hydraulic power steering pump is transmitting through to the active roll system module. but why does the module amplify this noise?
i'm afraid the only thing the dealer would do is change parts until the noise goes away.

i think the real flaw is the location of the ARS module. its bolted to the backside of the firewall, right by the front passenger's feet.
maybe dynamatting the floor there might help stop some of the noise??

yeah, you cant hear it with the radio on, or a loud exhaust.
this seems to be a common issue.
it'd be nice if bmw has a solution besides just changing the power steering pump or module for the same un-updated version.
