So, I let me dad borrow the 545 while I use his Jeep to pull my trailer and get the Cobra to Detroit Autorama (2nd place this year by the way!!).

He calls me, there is a 2 foot round circle of engine oil under the car! Call BMW Assist, they flatbed it to the dealer. They tell me the o-ring on the oil filter let loose. All fixed, they added two quarts of oil. Probably a problem with the other dealer who did the last oil change.

1 week later. I have oil in my driveway this time! Called BMW Assist they are going to pick it up tonight and take it back to the dealer so they get another chance to impress me.

Is this common? Anyone elese have this problem??

There are two O rings on the filter. One big one that goes around the filter housing and one little one that goes around a drain plug at the bottom of the filter housing. I never drain the filter with the drain plug. I'm afraid I'll break the plastic filter housing so I just unscrew the filter housing and try not to make a mess. Hopefully your filter housing isn't cracked. I would ask them to check that.

I have never had an oil leak but the guys at Turner motorsport warned me about the filter housing drain plug. If you over tighen it you will crack the filter housing.

Good luck

Hey congrats on second place at the Autorama for the Cobra, how about a few pics of snake???

WOW

Super looking car, did you build it? Factory Five is in MA, I have several catalogs that I dream over. I have always wanted to build my own car. I need to get my son to take the 72 Buick GS (that he won't let me sell) out of my garage... I want to build the coupe...
